Campbeltown Loch, Blended Scotch Whisky (Scotland)
As the name suggests, this characterful blend is produced by J A Mitchell & Co, the owners of Springbank distillery, in the eponymous Kintyre town. Aged for five years, Campbeltown Loch contains both Springbank and its peatier cousin Longrow in its composition. The result is a well-balanced blend with a nose that is initially fresh and fruity; sweet, with a hint of new leather and printerís ink, plus brine and mild peat. With time it settles down into something more floral, with subtle leather and plump grain. Full and sweet on the palate, with apricots, gentle spice, milk chocolate and malt. Mildly salty and peaty in the well-rounded, slightly oaky finish. Very drinkable and just that little bit different to most blended Scotches on the market in this price range. 40.0% ABV, 70cl, £15.95, specialist whisky merchants.
