Dalmore, 1978 (Scotland)
This 1978 vintage release from The Dalmore spent 29 years in American white oak before being transferred into Gonzales Byass ex-Sherry casks for two years of additional maturation. The out-turn is 477 bottles. The nose offers freshly-ground coffee, marzipan, dark berries, and rich Sherry, with milk chocolate and Jaffa oranges. The addition of water teases out smokier notes. Soft fruits and more milk chocolate, with roasted almonds on the rich, sweet palate. Long and juicy in the finish, with fruit pastilles, a hint of aniseed and coffee with cream. 46.0% ABV, 70cl, 499.95, specialist whisky merchants.
