Talisker, Storm (Scotland)
The team behind Diageo's Talisker single malt has been notably busy in recent months, releasing a travel retail-exclusive expression Port Ruighe, finished in port casks following initial maturation in a mix of American and European oak refill casks and heavily charred casks, along with Talisker Storm and Dark Storm. The pick of the trio is Storm, in which the maritime notes of Talisker are subtly enhanced. Refill and rejuvenated casks have both contributed to its maturation. The nose offers brine, burning wood embers, vanilla, and honey. The palate is sweet and spicy, with cranberries and blackcurrants, while peat-smoke and black pepper are ever-present. The finish is spicy, with walnuts, and fruity peat. 45.8% ABV, 70cl, £40.00, widely available.
