Glendronach, Batch 8 Vintage 1990 Cask #2971 (Scotland)
GlenDronach distillery has recently released Batch 8 of its single cask bottlings, which comprises eight expressions, ranging from 42 to 10 years old. All have been matured in Pedro Ximinez or Oloroso sherry butts or puncheons. For us, the pick of the bunch, based on considerations of quality and affordability, is the 22-year-old 1990 expression, matured in a Pedro Ximinez sherry puncheon. Treacle and well-baked Christmas cake, quite earthy, with a hint of liquorice and bitter orange on the nose. Sumptuous in the mouth, with fat sherry and raisin notes, sultanas and dates, hot cross buns. Sweet, fruity notes are retained right through the lengthy, spicy finish, which closes with dark chocolate. 50.8% ABV, 70cl, 110.00, specialist whisky merchants.
