Isle of Arran, 16 Year Old (Scotland)
Isle of Arran Distillers has been producing spirit since 1995, and officially launched its first 10-year-old expression in 2006. Since then, 12 and 14-year-old variants have followed, and while the ultimate goal is to launch an 18-year-old expression in 2015, the distillery has recently added a 16-year-old to its permanent line-up. There is also talk of a small quantity of 17-year-old being released next year. Meanwhile, the 16-year-old edition is limited to 9,000 bottles and has been matured in 30 per cent ex-sherry hogsheads and 70 per cent ex-Bourbon casks. Milk chocolate, malt and honey on the nose, with a slight citric tang. Milk chocolate, malt and honey carry over from the nose onto the palate, which also boasts nutmeg, ginger and spicy oak. The finish is rich and lengthy, with spicy fruits. 46.0% ABV, 70cl, 59.95, specialist whisky merchants.
