Glen Grant, 170th Anniversary Edition (Scotland)
While sales of Glen Grant single malt continue to thrive, notably in Italy and France, the Rothes distillery has gradually extended its range of expressions. One of the most interesting is this no-age-statement, un-chill-filtered bottling, produced in 2010 to celebrate the distillery’s 170th anniversary. Those used to youthful Glen Grants might be in for a surprise with this rather more after-dinner-style dram. Floral on the nose, with marzipan, caramel, honey and Jaffa orange. Silky mouth-feel, early fino-style sherry, then stewed fruits and a suggestion of smoke. The finish features sultanas, plain chocolate and gentle spices. 46.0% ABV, 70cl, £89.95, specialist whisky merchants.
