Bowmore, Laimrig 15 Year Old (Scotland)
'Laimrig' is Gaelic for 'pier,' and celebrates the ancient pier next to the distillery at Bowmore on Islay where barley was once unloaded and casks of spirit shipped out for sale. This 15-year-old cask strength, non-chill-filtered expression is exclusive to The Whisky Shop’s 22 retail outlets and website. It has been finished for several months in Spanish oak ex-Sherry butts. The nose offers coal tar soap, brine, dry sherry, chimney soot, and finally warm, old leather. Viscous on the palate, with spicy sherry, gunpowder tea, fabric Elastoplast, dark berries and wood smoke. The finish is long and spicy, with smoky stewed fruits. 53.7% ABV, 70, £70.00, The Whisky Shop.
