Craigellachie, 17-Year-Old (Scotland)
John Dewar & Sons Ltd owns five Scotch whisky distilleries, but all of them have relatively low single malt profiles, with the exception of Aberfeldy. The company is remedying that situation by releasing new expressions of Aultmore, Craigellachie, Deveron and Royal Brackla, with Craigellachie taking the lead. 13, 17 and 23-year-old variants are on offer, along with a travel retail-exclusive 19-year-old. For us, the pick of the bunch is the 17-year-old. Very fruity on the nose, with background aniseed and cinnamon notes. Finally, toffee bonbons. Dark, fruity spices, gunpowder tea and dry roasted nuts on the palate. Warming in the finish, with a citrus fruit note and tingling spices. 46.0% ABV, 70cl, £95.00, specialist whisky merchants.
