Ardbeg & Craigellachie, Double Barrel (Douglas Laing) (Scotland)
Glasgow-based independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co Ltd has developed a range of blended malts under the 'Double Barrel' banner. Each comprises a vatting of two single malts, with apparently contrasting styles. In this case the heavily-peated Islay malt of Ardbeg meets the more urbane and mild-mannered Speysider Craigellachie. Complex on the nose, with initial savoury notes, wood smoke, ozone, hand-rolled tobacco. Becoming saltier. Creamy on the palate, with citrus fruit, spice and pine. Developing sweet nuttiness and background peat. The lengthy finish majors on spicy peat. 46.0% ABV, 70cl, 57.00, specialist whisky merchants.
