BenRiach, 35 Year Old (Scotland)
The latest release from BenRiach distillery on Speyside is a 35-year-old, intended to replace the existing 30-year-old expression. Just 1,704 bottles have been released, and the whisky is not chill-filtered or coloured. The nose is mellow and urbane, with almonds, vanilla, pineapple and melon. Fruity on the palate, with wood spice, plus milk chocolate and more almonds and vanilla. Slowly drying with spicy dried fruits in the finish. None of the intrusive bitter oaky-ness one might expect from such a veteran whisky. A classic Speyside triumph! 42.5% ABV, 70cl, £440.00, specialist whisky merchants.
