Kilkerran, 'Work in Progress' 6 Bourbon Matured (Scotland)
Kilkerran single malts are distilled in Campbeltown’s Glengyle distillery, and the latest releases are a pair of 10-year-olds, one matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and the other in former sherry casks, as was the case with ‘Work in Progress’ 5. 9,000 bottles of the whiskies, distilled from lightly peated malt, are available worldwide. Both variants demonstrate just how well Kilkerran is performing as it gains age, with the Bourbon-matured release just getting the nod over its sherried sibling. The nose offers lemongrass, salt, wood smoke, and ginger snaps. The palate is soft and slightly oily, with topical fruits and background spicy smoke. The finish displays mellow spice, and is nutty and drying. 46.0% ABV, 70cl, £35.50, specialist whisky merchants.
